How to Win Friends and Influence People

How to Win Friends and Influence People I heard about this book through one of Paul Graham's essays and decided to order it and give it a quick read. My copy arrived in the mail today and I will start reading it tonight. It's about 250-260 pages, so it shouldn't take me too long to read.

Paul Graham recommended an older copy of the book, as the newer versions have been modified to be a bit more PC. The one I found on abebooks.com was published in 1964, so I'm hoping its the original text. Either way, I'll have a book report put up by the end of this month. I haven't written a book report since the 6th grade!

Has anyone else read this book? What did you think about it? The general consensus seems to be a positive one. Here's a short summary I found online of what the book is all about.

Ruby on Rails 0.12.0 is out!

These Ruby on Rails guys are pretty quick with their releases. They don't just release tiny bug fixes either, there are "a total 96 changes" in this release. Amazing.

I’m a Color Lover!

No matter how hard I try to force myself to become a programmer and get into database schemas, XML configuration files, seperation of concerns, etc., deep down I'm a designer. And being a designer means that you love colors. Without colors, our designs would be dull and boring. So on that note, I would like to introduce to you another color/pallete choosing website that I use and love:

http://www.colourlovers.com

The top favorite color (colour if you like) on the site right now is called "nameless blu". It's a nice shade of blue and very appropriate for the spring/summer time. I give you, Nameless Blu!

Fun Fact Filler Post

I've had my blog up for less than a month now. It's always very difficult to get people to recognize your blog and actually find it interesting enough to read it. Even harder to make them read it regularly. My intentions for creating this blog wasn't to get a lot of readers, I just thought I'd give back to the community a little. I don't want to be a leech that just absorbs information from other's blogs and never contributes back in any way. So I decided to write about things that I thought were interesting or useful, in hopes that it would help someone else in return.

Well, after a few weeks I decided to check my server logs to see if anyone was even looking at my blog. Not sure what the numbers mean, but according to the graphs, the number of visitors to my site has definitely increased.

Unique visits to GiT - From January 1, 2005 to December 31, 2005

Ok, so I was too busy this weekend enjoying the emaculate NYC weather to write anything useful. So this is a "Fun Fact Filler" post. I will post up something interesting shortly, so please do come back! :-)

Javascript Enabled Stylesheets

Are your sites heavily dependant on javascript? Yeah, so are mine. Sometimes its just not worth the trouble for me to make my sites work for the 1-2% of the population who might have javascript turned off. Just about every browser has javascript support, so even if they do have it turned off, they can easily turn it on.

But in any case, if you really care about compliancy and accessibility and want to have more control over your page w/o javascript, then check out this link:

Javascript Enabled Stylesheets

It shows you how to include a certain stylesheet only if JS is enabled. This is handy in those cases where you have sections of your site hidden by default and use JS to show them.
