Determine the Optimum Age of Your Next Partner

May 25th, 2005 ramin View Comments

According to a famous French mathematician, there is a formula to calcualte the optimum age for a man's girlfriend/wife. What is the magic formula?

(x / 2) + 7

Using the same logic, the formular to calculate the optimum age for a woman's boyfriend/husband would be:

(x - 7) * 2

Just substitude your own age for "x" and do the math. Sort of makes sense I guess?

The new Amazon Dashboard

May 22nd, 2005 ramin View Comments

I just went to Amazon to order a couple of books and noticed the new layout of the website. Not sure how new it is, but I hadn't noticed it until today. What really caught my attention was the new dashboard they added with links to all their 31 product categories. The concept is very similar to the dashboard I created while I was working on the Leaflink project. As you hover over the menu item (in my case, it was a mouse click and not hover), a small dashboard container opens up with a few links.

There is nothing new about this approach, as it is simply mimicing a drop down menu. It jut looks a little different. The only thing I didn't like about the Amazon version was the fact that the dashboard is white, which makes it hard to distinguish from the already white background. To solve this problem on my version, I actually fade the background by decreasing the opacity (see it in action). This makes the dashboard stand out a lot better.

I did a quick photoshop edit of how I would've done the Amazon dashboard to make it stand out more:

Creating Passionate Users

May 22nd, 2005 ramin View Comments

I stumbled upon this blog site which has some very interesting articles/essays. A lot of them have to do with creating "passionate users". In web/software development, it is very important to have passionate users. You can see the impact of that on a lot of Google sites, flickr, del.icio.us, basecamp, cragislist, etc. If you have passionate users, they will talk about your site or product to their friends. Some of the best sites and services out there didn't spend a dime on advertising or marketing, yet they have millions of users. Why? Because they have passionate users. Read on to find out more about what it takes to create these passionate users.

PS3 Conference Video – WATCH IT

May 18th, 2005 ramin View Comments

I'm not even going to bother to write anything about this topic. All the words can't describe what needs to be seen. Just go and view the video. I'm sold on PS3. Wow.

P.S. The XBOX 360 MTV special was a joke compared to the PS3 conference. I currently own an XBOX, but I think I'm a PS fan now. Killzone2 (wow). Motorstorm (unreal). Vision Gran Turismo (Faint).
