I quit.

No, not blogging! My job... Yes, I quit my job this past friday (06/20/2005). Why? Because I found a better job in New York City. I can't discuss the details of the new job, but let's just say I'll be a little bit more busy and won't be blogging from work anymore (or as much ;-))

Note to all employers of skilled employees: DO NOT let your star developers get bored and have them sit on their ass for 3 weeks at a time with nothing to do, forcing them to create their own projects and report to themselves.

Is it a cooincidence that a number of other people are leaving my previous company? Hmmm.. I started to notice a pattern there. Then I decided to join the ranks myself. So if you own a company and have some talented or passionate employees, first of all, don't take advantage of them and secondly, don't let them get bored. It's just as worst as being underpaid and overskilled.

With that said, I have 2 weeks to find a new apartment in the City! Let the craziness begin.

Good Point Ramin. I’ve seen it happen to almost every developer I’ve worked with. They come in with great ideas and tons of exhuberance. Gradually, all of this is beaten out of them by repeatedly ignoring their ideas. What does this lead to?

Shitty products. Employees working at about 40%, and surfing the web the rest of the time. You know what’s weird, they don’t even want to be surfing the web. They would much rather be working on something interesting.

Personally, I have been able position myself around this obstacle by pretty much forcing my will on them. If you are good enough, and you have proven that you are a valuable asset, you have more pull then you think you do.
