Navigating the NYS DMV site, trying to locate the credit card payment page

So how hard can it be to find the "payment" option on the DMV site to pay for a violation? Well, how about I let you try for yourselves and see how long it takes you. I swear it took me almost 30 minutes just to find the page with the little credit card icons on it, and that wasn't even the page with the form to fill in your info.

I don't know who designed that site or decided that they should fill all the pages with endless ramblings, but I would really love to know if they've ever used the site themselves. It is the most useless piece of crap I've seen in a long time. Why is there so much text explaining every little detail that I nor anyone else cares about. Just show me a damn form to fill out, take my money and leave me alone!

the letter I received in the mail instructed that I had to make a payment within 30 days or my license would be suspended. The letter said that I had the option to pay online and the only link that was provided was the following:

http://nysdmv.com/drp.htm

Ok, are you ready? Click on that link and try to find the credit card payment page. Go go go! and good luck, you'll need it!

Yes there site is horrible, needs a usability makeover :) Wish the state would provide a bigger budget for development!

If you give up on the web site and go to the DMV office in Saratoga County you will find it is closed. It seems that the DMV staffers in up state NY will get both 2/12 and 2/19 off for the presidents' day. Nice deal, eh?

I have spent two days trying to figure it out as well as call the local dvm without much success. It is so frustrating yet the payments are expected right away. So has anyone found the actual link?

I’d agree with Ben, the site is… just like the State Bureaucracy itself: a big convoluted elephantic monstrosity, flailing about itself like a sperm whale in heat, ha ha! It had lots of unnecessary “if not..then” paragraphs. Haven't they heard of a FAQ or HELP link, instead of explaing all the ifs/butts right on that site? Now that would be too simple…>:]

~ That said, I must admit that I was able to complete the transaction in about 5 minutes – that beats going to the DMV office, trying to find a park & stand in line & make nice nice to the grouchy bureaucrats, ha ha.

1 glitch I encountered: after entering my ID # correctly 4 times, it kept rejecting it as “wrong, mister!” ha ha. I finally just put my name and social etc. and…..it worked.
Try it – you’ll feel so relieved you didn’t have to go there or use the phone prompt, yawn!
ps: wonder what they do with all that money?? Now that’s a daydream, lol >:)

State websites are often terrible. I was on unemployment in Florida for a few months (2002-2003). They had an online system for claiming your weeks. It worked well enough, but they only had it online during regular business hours. If you tried to access it after 5:30, you would get an ADODB database connection error. Rather than direct you to a "sorry, we're closed for the day" page it was like they turned off the sql server that served the app. How lazy is that?!
